We would love for you to contact us and let us help you get your smile back.

A Great Smile is a Healthier You!

WHAT ARE REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES?

A removable partial denture is an appliance that uses artificial teeth to replace one or more missing teeth. This appliance is attached to your remaining teeth or implant crowns with metal clasps, and is supported by your soft tissue. Because this appliance relies on the patient’s soft tissue and remaining teeth for retention & stability, a thorough examination will be performed to determine if dental work is needed prior to removable partial denture fitting. These dentures are removable to allow for easy cleaning. A removable partial denture is made using acrylic, composite, & metal. The gums are made from acrylic, covering a metal substructure. The artificial teeth are made from composite, and less often porcelain. Your removable partial dentures will be designed by a trained prosthodontist to best fit your specific needs.

Difference Between Removable Partial Dentures and Complete Dentures

People who have experienced tooth loss from disease, medicine, or other causes are frequently fitted with complete dentures in their golden years. Implant-supported dentures are the only way to keep full dentures in place. While a full denture replaces a full set of teeth, a partial denture replaces only a few teeth, and they’re removable. If you notice that your dentures don’t fit quite right, we recommend that you return to the dentist for an adjustment.

Can You Eat With Partial Dentures?

After having your removable partial dentures, there is no restriction on what you can or cannot eat or drink. Changing your diet is not necessary. But if you eat sticky or hard items with your dentures, such as gum, you may have trouble cleaning them in the future. As you get used to wearing a partial denture, it’s crucial to remember this.

Can You Sleep With Partial Dentures?

There are times when your mouth will need a break from wearing your denture everyday. Before going to sleep, you should remove dentures and leave them to soak overnight.

Will the Dentures Change How I Speak?

It may take some time to get used to speaking with a denture. Denture wearers may find it difficult to pronounce particular words, depending on the teeth they are replacing.

Minor Adjustments and Repairs to My Dentures Are Needed. Can I Do This on My Own?

It would help if you did not attempt to fix your dentures independently. The appliance could be permanently damaged, making it useless. Make an appointment with your dentist if you wish to make minor modifications. You should seek the help of your dentist rather than attempting to repair a denture on your own.

How Long Will It Take to Become Used to Wearing the Partial Dentures After Being Fitted?

It’s normal to have some discomfort within the first few weeks after getting your dentures fitted. We recommend putting it in your mouth for some time before your mouth becomes accustomed to its presence.

What Are the Different Types of Removable Partial Dentures?

Removable partial dentures include:

1. Acrylic Clasp Removable Partial Dentures
This partial denture is made with acrylic clasps, often referred to as a flipper, and is the least expensive option. It is however also meant only for temporary use. Acrylic clasps are not as desirable as those made of cast metal, and they are generally regarded as a short-term remedy because of their “bulky” appearance.

2. Cast Metal Framework Removable Partial Dentures
The most prevalent type of partial denture is the cast metal framework removable denture that replaces your missing teeth and uses accuracy attachments to enhance looks and chewing ability.

3. Flexible Partial Denture
If you’re allergic to acrylic, you may want to choose a flexible partial denture. It’s very comfortable, and the gum-colored clasps help it blend in more seamlessly. On the other hand, these benefits come at a cost, as the price for these partial dentures is higher than that of other partials. This type of denture is also a temporary fix for dental problems.

The Best Way to Care for Your Partial Dentures

For partial dentures to function properly, it is necessary to clean and maintain them regularly.

1. Thoroughly clean your partial dentures
Maintaining good dental hygiene extends to one’s false teeth as well. You should brush and floss your teeth and dentures at least twice a day. You should also clean your dentures after each meal if at all possible. Clean dentures using a denture brush with soft bristles.

2. Use a prosthodontist-recommended denture cleaning solution
Dishwashing fluid and other mild cleaning agents can be used. You must remember to clean all of your dentures thoroughly. You must also clean close to the gums and teeth that support your prosthetic masticatory apparatus. Make sure to also closely watch the gums and teeth that support your prosthetic masticatory device.

3. Avoid dropping the dentures
When washing dentures, it is best to do so over a bowl of water or a towel, as they are prone to breaking. If the dentures fall, a bowl of water or a towel will provide a soft landing.

4. The dentures need to be soaked overnight
You should leave your partial dentures to soak overnight in a denture cleaning solution or in cold water. Dentures that are regularly soaked at night are less prone to warping and retain their shape longer.

5. Do not put off visiting the dentist
Dentures can malfunction or they can warp over time. It’s also possible that they’ve gone through significant wear and tear and no longer fit as well as before. Home repair is not the answer to these problems. Prosthodontists should be consulted if you are experiencing issues with your dentures.

How Long Does a Removable Partial Denture Last?

Removable dentures have a lifespan of roughly five to seven years. A variety of methods can extend their lifespan. Partial dentures can last up to 10 years with proper oral hygiene and skilled cleanings.

Benefits of Removable Partial Dentures:

  • Protects the health of oral tissues, and prevent other teeth from drifting into gaps left by missing teeth. When teeth drift, they open spaces, creating bacteria growth and gum disease
  • Restores the comfort of normal chewing, eating, and speech once skewed by tooth loss
  • Improves your appearance and bolsters confidence that’s lost when teeth were missing
